From the very first moment, Berlin keyboard wizard Lennart Smidt reveals a highly individual narrative style on his solo album "Boomerang," which inevitably captivates listeners. He can be an entire orchestra and a lonely dreamer at the same time. Some of it recalls a Berlin variant of Harlem Stride, other parts evoke classical influences from Chopin to Satie or impressionistic ragtimes, still others bring to mind Monk or the raw power of punk channeled through the piano.
