The album's sound is dense, yet transparent. Sometimes it feels like being reminded of amber, in whose light-infused interior figures are trapped, figures who once led a completely different existence. You believe you can hear through the pieces, yet remain captivated by them. At the center of every song is the song itself. As self-evident as that may sound, it is still the exception in jazz. Metzger, Aarup, Doffey, and Timm enjoy solos, but refrain from exhibitionist solo escapades and, in keeping with the album's motto, always remain recognizably within the framework.
