Tales Untold (CD) / Wiebke Schröder Trio
With "Tales Untold" (Hey!Jazz), Wiebke Schröder (piano/composition), Silas Jakob (drums) and Michael Bohn (double bass) present both recently created and long-dormant compositions from their creative work. Much like an optical illusion invites discovery of the hidden, their nuanced soundscapes between Modern Jazz, Classical, and New Music often spring from introspection. From the pianist's sensitive world of thoughts and feelings, pieces like "Missed Chance", "Aufbruch" (Departure), or "Illusion" often emerge. They tell of missed opportunities, ambivalences, and melancholy - but also of new beginnings, time, and chance. With moods that are sometimes thoughtful, sometimes euphoric, or rhythmically groovy, the sound fabric is complemented by compositions from Silas Jakob and Michael Bohn. The three accomplished musicians primarily see composing as a free experiment. They do not shy away from complex and multi-layered structures, nor from euphony and comprehensibility. As in their improvisations, their creation follows exclusively the expression that the respective subject demands or that personal feeling urges.
