Waltzes (CD) / Kerim König
"König’s great talent is to capture moods musically and express them in sound… The works are profound, sensitive, emotional."

The German film composer Kerim Koenig lives in Berlin and has composed primarily for film and TV since 2007. When he saw and heard the Japanese concert pianist Mayuko Miyata – who currently also lives in the German capital – performing at one of her concerts, he remembered a waltz that he had once composed but then forgotten in a drawer. Miyata’s expressive and technically brilliant playing reawakened his passion for Chopin – a passion shared by Miyata, who immersed herself in Chopin’s music under the tutelage of the multi-award-winning Polish concert pianist Lidia Grychtołówna. This led to the project Waltzes: contemporary classical piano music composed by Kerim Koenig and interpreted by Mayuko Miyata. Together they recorded an album at the famous Teldex Studio in Berlin with the help of the Grammy-nominated sound engineer Wolfgang Schiefermair. It is an album full of soundscapes that inspire the listener not so much to waltz as to muse, reflect and relax.
